Antivenom immunoglobulin

E

nvenomation by snake and scorpion bite is a real public health problem in North Africa. Algeria alone records 50000 scorpion bites

per year and between 50-100 deaths, of which 80% are unfortunately children. The therapeutic management of severe forms of

envenomation is based, among other things, on the administration of specific immune sera. We will see in this illustration, the process of

preparation of these anti-venoms, obtained by harvesting and then purifying the antibodies from plasma produced by the donor animal

(horse) at the Pasteur Institute of Algeria.
