Reduce invasive cathter-associated infections in ICUs by different care bundles – Taiwan experience

Chun-Ming Lee

St. Joseph’s Hospital, Taiwan

C

entral line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and catheter-associated urinary

tract infection (CAUTI) are the most common healthcare-associated infections (HAI), especially for patients in high-risk units

such as ICUs (intensive care units). The application of care bundles to reduce infection rate has successfully become an important

measure in many countries. This presentation will discuss how and what were the results of the care bundles intervention in different

levels of hospital ICUs, including medical centers, regional hospitals and district hospitals that are located at different areas of Taiwan.

In high risk ICUs, different care bundles were implemented in the past few years in order to reduce invasive catheter-associated

infections, for which were built on evidence-based infection control measures. The feasibility for the implementation of CLABSI, VAP

or CAUTI bundles in the healthcare system plays an important role for the quality and policy of infection control. The final outcome

of this study will determine the quality of decisions and implementation of the care bundles policy too.
