E

rrors are known to occur in most specializations of the medical field. Most medical errors are managed at the institutional

level and seldom are discussed. Few cases, like the present case, are difficult to diagnose and very taxing to the patient

as well as to the attending consultant, physically and psychologically. We present a case of laparoscopy assisted retrieval of a

surgical sponge in a patient who was presented with chronic abdominal pain and vomiting and had undergone surgery for

benign gastric outlet obstruction 6 years prior to presentation. This case is being presented for its uniqueness and to reiterate

the importance of sponge count at every step of the procedure.
