Abstract

Th e white crane Ganoderma Lucidum (Rhinacanthus nasutus L.) is a Chinese herbal medicine plant native to Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Yunnan in China. It is also cultivated in Taiwan. It was so named because its fl ower�s similarity to a white crane and has the same effi cacy of Ganoderma Lucidum. Its root, stem and leave contain special substances such as lupeol, b-sitosterol, stigmasterol and rhinaccanthin A. B. It is used as an antipyretic or a medicine to moisturize the lung in traditional Chinese medicine. According to a medical literature report, adding a Chinese herbal extract to the fermentation matrix of probiotics can help it to grow and generate a special activated component at the same time. Th is study explores the eff ect of white crane Ganoderma Lucidum extract under diff erent conditions on the growth of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. Bulgaricus when the extract is added. Th e study result shows that when 0.5% white crane ganoderma lucidum dry leave extract was added, aft er cultured for 96 hours, the strains grew better than another extract under diff erent condition was added whereas the pH value of the fermented liquid was not aff ected signifi cantly. Furthermore, a further experiment result shows that adding the white crane Ganoderma Lucidum extract at zero hour the strains grew better than adding it aft er cultured for36 hours.

Biography

Ching-Hui Chang has completed his Ph.D at the age of 38 years from Chung Hsing University. He has served as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Da-Yeh University. He is a researcher at Department of Eco-Materials Technology, ITRI South. He is also associate secretary-General of Taiwan Eco-Materials Industry Development Association. He has published more than 15 papers in journals and conference.
