Intensive fish farming represents important sources in Mediterranean countries and has resulted in serious pathological
problems. Huge numbers of marine species are commercially reared in Mediterranean regions and a wide variety of parasites
are recorded as serious pathogens of these fish. Among those are the parasites which might retard the growth of fish, cause
severe damages or cause sudden mortalities. The most common parasites affecting Mediterranean fish in Egypt are the external
species that have been implicated in serious losses in cultured sea bream. The increase in prevalence of ectoparasites is a
serious problem which nowadays affects fish farms especially in young fish as they can cause serious pathological problems
and increased mortality. In contrast to mammalian therapeutics, the use of pharmaceutical substances and particularly anti
parasitic is rather limited in fish. The aim of this presentation is to provide an overview of the important ectoparasite infection
of the Egyptian Mediterranean fish in relation to marine pollution and their control methods.
