Introduction: South Africa is quite a dynamic country in where the work environment has changed quite significantly. The nursing
fraternity has had to evolve in this ever changing health services with the work environment.
Problem: In a country that is developing with little health care beyond the primary base the nursing profession which is in most cases
the only health care available the nurse has had to take on may roles and responsibilities. Due to the ever increasing workforce the
nurse has had to adept and become better educated to assist with the demands form society. Within the South African contests the
role of the Occupational Health Nurse has become a specialized position which requires special education to cater for the demands
placed on the care giver.
Purpose: Due to the change in legislation it become imperative that the Nursing professional role and activities also needed to be
adjusted to keep up with work environment and knowledge. Workers health has become a priority within the work environment to
ensure better and more productive employees.
Method: Different service models are functioning within South Africa. These take the form of public to private and in some cases a
combination of the two. Hoverer is does not matter which model is used the benefits to the company is quite significate.
Results: Though the autonomy of the nurses and qualification we strive to ensure excellent competent and highly functioning health
care providers within the industrial sector.
