Abstract

Background & Purpose: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with increased risk for metabolic syndrome in both adults and children. Obesity and metabolic syndrome are rapidly increasing in developed countries. Abnormalities of metabolic variables in severity dependent OSA in children has not been investigated to a significant extent. Methods: Children evaluated in past two years for OSA were included in the study. Components of the metabolic syndrome; total cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c) and blood pressure were collected from subject?s medical records. Body mass index (BMI) was calculated using height and weight. His thesis work was on the Genetic, Metabolic and Hormonal Profile in obese Asian Indians with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
