Abstract
Obesity linked NAFLD is the most prevalent hepatic disorder of the current era. N. sativa and P. ovata aretraditional fat plummeting agents. The current project aims to find out the potential of these herbs against dietary obesity linked NAFLD on the basis of gender. Forty male (M) and forty female (F) Rattus norvegicus (200 g) were subdivided (n=10) into 0 (negative control), I (positive control), II and III (treated) groups. Group 0 was fed on 100% rat chow, group I received diet â??Aâ? (34% Rat chow +33% Sucrose + 20% tea whitener +13% water),group II got diet â??Bâ?(50 g N. sativa seeds/Kg of â??Aâ?) and group III was fed on diet â??Dâ?(50 g P.ovata husks/Kg of â??Aâ?). After feeding for sixteen weeks animals were sacrificed to excise liver for the histopathological analysis by H & E and trichom staining. The results revealed that in both M-I and F-I macrovesicular steatosis, ballooning of hepatocytes and fibrosis was observed while hepatocellular necrosis and distortion of hepatic lobules was dominant in M-I than F-I. The treated group M-II exhibited microvesicular as well as macrovesicular steatosis, ballooned hepatocytes with portal fibrosis, however, F-II had only microvesicular steatosis and portal fibrosis. M-III presented predominantly macrovesicular steatosis, ballooned hepatocytes, and severe hepatocellular necrosis, advanced perilobular fibrosis with distorted hepatic lobules as compared to F-III which presented only microvesicular steatosis and portal fibrosis. Conclusively, it can be said that a potent fat plummeting effect is presented in adult females Rattus norvegicus against dietary obesity linked NAFLD.
