Investigation of job satisfaction and life satisfaction of nurses working in emergency services

Objective

: The study was conducted to investigate the job satisfaction and life satisfaction of nurses working in emergency

services.

Materials & Methods

: This descriptive study was conducted in emergency services of two hospitals in Turkey. For data

collection in the study, "Introductory Information Form" was used to identify the socio-demographic characteristics of nurses,

the "Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS)" was used to evaluate their job satisfaction, and the "Life Satisfaction Scale" was used to evaluate

the life satisfaction levels. Data analysis was performed with the SPSS 18.00 statistics package program.

Findings

: In the study, it was determined that 65% of the nurses was female, 44% was in the 26-35 age group, 50% was married,

60% was adult emergency nurses, 67% was working for 0-5 years, and 77% was working in emergency service for 0-5 years.

In this study, the mean total score of the nurses from the job satisfaction scale was found to be 125.02±20.14. And, their mean

score in the life satisfaction scale was 4.07±1.52. Significant positive relationship was found to be between job satisfaction and

life satisfaction.

Conclusion

: It was found that the levels of job satisfaction and life satisfaction of nurses working in emergency service were

moderate. There was a significant positive correlation between job satisfaction and life satisfaction, with an increase in life

satisfaction as the job satisfaction increases.
