The decision tree of eating disorder treatment
E
ating disorders are complex psychiatric illnesses with varying degrees of severity and a different combination of symptoms.
When working with this population, it is key to understand how to address the unique presentation of each patient. In
this presentation, the author will provide an overview of the various aspects of the diagnosis and treatment process. This will
include a discussion of the criteria for decision making regarding medical and psychiatric hospitalizations, residential, partial
hospital, intensive outpatient and outpatient services as well as clinical cases. In addition, it is critical that patients have a team
of clinicians to address each component of their illness. Author will also address the importance of a multidisciplinary team
and pitfalls that can occur when there is a lack of communication among treaters.
