It is a public university with 29,822 students and three campuses at Polo dellAnnunziata, Polo del Centro and Polo del Papardo. It had a good reputation for the studies and researches done, but due to the revolution against the Spaniards it was closed in the late seventeenth century. King Ferdinard II refounded the university in 1847, but because of certain circumstances it was again closed and reopened after a couple of years. It is one of the best European universities known for its research. It follow a motto ‘Tradition and change, at the centre of Mediterranean’ which points at the university’s interest in tradition and bringing change in research and science.
