This university is the oldest university in Belgium with the history of 600 years. It was founded in the year 1425. Later in 2011, the university name changed from Katholieke Universiteit Leuve to KU Leuven. This university offers its student an environment of high-level research with the aim of preparing students to assume their social responsibilities. The research intensiveness and international orientation leads in both fundamental and applied research with strong focus in inter and multidisciplinary, strives for international excellence. As on December 2014 the university possess a staff of 11,538 members. The university has three major groups namely Humanities and Social Sciences Group, Biomedical Sciences Group and Science, Engineering and Technology Group with number of different specialization with main focus on Biomedical Sciences Group with 14 departments. The operating revenue of the university significantly increased from 516 million euros to 933 million euros in 2014. In last 15 years the higher education system has changed dramatically. It has 15 campuses in 11 Flemish cities with new integrated degree programmes in architecture, industrial engineering, business engineering, environmental and prevention management, applied linguistics, journalism, and kinesiology & rehabilitation sciences. The university is continuously expanding its wings by collaborating with various funding agencies thus leading the creation of the pool of the funds which is not only improving the present research scenario but also in augmentation of education standards.
