The University of Graz was the oldest and the largest university established in the year 1585. It is a public university and the second largest and the oldest university. The university has currently more than 32000 students and an academic staff of about 2676 and admin staff of about 1300.
The university is subdivided into six faculties out of which the two largest ones are Faculty of arts and humanities and faculty of Natural Sciences. Faculty of medicine has been separated from the university by the legislation of state in the year 2004. So, it has become an independent university named Medical university of Graz.
The main motto of the university is “so let us rejoice”.
