Founded in 1976, the University of Azores is located in Azores, Portugal. It is the only public university in the region of Azores. The university is dependent on Ministry of Science , Technology and Education. It was founded in order to facilitate the higher education in Azores. The University has three campuses. The main campus provides education in various disciplines. The other two campuses provide training in agrarian sciences and oceanography. The various departments include Oceanography and Fisheries, Biology, Educational sciences, Geosciences, History, Philosophy, Social sciences, Languages and Modern Literature, Mathematics and Agricultural sciences. It also has a number of research centers for Biotechnology, Applied Economics, Physical, Technological and Overseas History.
