It was established in 1890 then became an independent university by the Council of Ministers on 28 September 1972 Hugo Kołłątaj put lots of efforts in creating a Department of Agriculture as part of the reformed Cracow Academy In 1924 university offered Europes first Higher Academic Cooperative Course. The Second World War caused considerable losses to the University, most seriously among the Faculty of Agriculture staff. After the war, the Faculty resumed its activity in January 1945. University consists of more than 26 thousand students graduated .800 research workers,175 professors and associate professors.Over 8,000 students pursue vocational courses every year.
