Trakya University

Trakya University The Trakya University has a great history of education & research that turns back to decades. The university is a public university that has been established in the year 1982, in the Edrine province of the country Turkey. The university was established by a foundation, in the year 1488 initially. The university was then a small hospital where the theoretical as well as the practical sessions for the trainees were carried at the same place. Later following the Republic, Trakya University was officially declared and established on July 20, 1982. During that time, initially there were three institutes (Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Health Sciences), four faculties including Faculty of Medicine, Engineering-Architecture, Science and Letters, TekirdaÄŸ Agriculture, along with colleges two in number Edirne Education, Çanakkale Education and four vocational high schools named as Edirne, Çanakkale, Kırklareli, TekirdaÄŸ. Later many research institutes, colleges, vocational schools; faculties were also established among which the Balkan Research center stands forward as institute with good importance.

The University of Trakya totally is framed with many faculties, research institutes, vocational colleges and vocational schools all together. Amongst these faculties of Engineering, Economics, Administrative Sciences, Education, Technical Education, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Letters, Pharmacy and Dentistry exist. Colleges of the university include The State Conservatory, Kırkpınar Physical Education and Sports College; College of Foreign Languages and Edirne & Keşan Applied Sciences College. Sixteen vocational colleges including Vocational Colleges of Health Services; Vocational Colleges of Hayrabolu, Keşan, Ipsala, Malkara, Luleburgaz, Şarkoy and many more were established. There are six vocational schools in addition, i.e., Edirne Social Sciences, Edirne Technical Sciences, Kırklareli Social Sciences, Kırklareli Technical Sciences, Schools of Arda and Tunca also exist. Along with these many research and application centers were also added to Trakya University.

The University totally is divided into many campuses & is proved to be one of the greatest universities in terms of extension. The campuses include, KaraaÄŸaç Campus, Balkan Campus, Kosovo Campus, AyÅŸekadın Campus, Sarayiçi Campus, Saraçhane Campus and many more. Among these the Karaagaç Campus being the major one, occupies a total area of 11.700 m2. The toatal number of students being educated in the university ranges around 39, 696. The total number of staff including teaching and non-teaching members ranges around 2931. The university ranks in the 45th place in terms of publications in journals in the scope of WOS amongst the total 131 universities in the country.

In addition to the regular research carried, the university also offers good amount of encouragement for research in fields of arts and literature. There were many research centers that were associated with the university. The total number of research centers that were associated with the university were 20 in number. Among these few operate in a regular fashion whereas few centers have gained importance globally. These centers include, Health Research and application center; Atatürk’s principles and history of Turkish revolution research and application center; Research and application center for mentally and movement handicapped children; Computer research and application center; Environmental Problems application and research; Balkan research and application center; International physics and applied mathematics research; Language teaching and learning research and application center; Cancer record application and research; Edirne research and application center; Plant breeding application and research and few more.
