Thiruvalluvar University

        The Thiruvalluvar University was established at in the year 2002 of October month in Vellore by the Tamilnadu government under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002 (Government of Tamilnadu Act 32 / 2002) and it is a public university which is affiliated to UGC. The university is spreaded in 112.68 acres at the Serkkadu near Vallimalai about 16 km away from the Vellore City on the Ranipet-Chittoor Trunk Road, Tamilnadu state in india. The Honorable Chief Minister SELVI DR. J. JAYALALITHAA who inaugurated the university on 16.10.2002. The University was named after the great Tamil Saint "Thiruvalluvar"is cherished with the motto. Every effort from the University is bounded to make Educational Institution as temple of learning. The main aim of this University is to provide the facilities for advanced Research and spreading of Knowledge with focus on the Social and Economic for the upliftment of society. The TIDE of Thiruvalluvar University has come into existence from the academic year 2011-12 which is nothing but Thiruvalluvar Institution of Distance Education.       The Thiruvalluvar University has total seven departments which offer several courses in Tamil, English, Economics, Zoology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Bio-Technology. 98 arts and Science College which are affiliated to this university, of which 9 are, aided Arts and science colleges, 3 are oriental title colleges, 10 are government Arts and science colleges, 72 are self-financing Arts and Science Colleges and the remaining 4 are University Constituent colleges. The Post Graduate Extension formed the core of Thiruvalluvar University which was the Centre of the Madras University, which was functioning in Vellore before 2002.       The Chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University is Honorable Thiru. CH. Vidyasagar Rao (who is the acting Governor of Tamil Nadu) and the Vice-Chancellor is Dr. K. Murugan. University campus is spread over an area of 112 acres at Serkadu about 16 km from the city centre on NH-4. The campus was constructed at a cost of Rs.20.35 crores and inaugurated by Mr. Karunanidhi on 27 November 2010. The campus has an academic block, administrative block, and computer science blocks, and a library. The finance source for the university is from the government of Tamil Nadu and government of India and through research schemes of the government of India and fees collected from the students of affiliated colleges.      The main mission of the university is to provide knowledge and employment of present leading youth. We aim to develop students with good knowledge in consonance with the saying of the sage Thiruvalluvar “Lead them to lead”. The main vision of the university is to create a motivating environment and arousing sense of social awareness by encouraging reciprocal growth and to provide higher quality education, quality Teaching and Research. Providing the training to students in such a way that they can meet the global challenges easily without losing the individuality of our nation and providing effective leaderships to women by providing wide opportunities.
