The Institute for Research and Technology Thessaly, a non-profit research and technological development organization in Volos-Thessaly, it is the result of unification of the four Institutes of the Centre for Research and Technology Thessaly (CERETETH), which was established in January 2006. IRETETH/CERETETH became a member of the Center for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH) established in Thessaloniki and administered by the Ministry of Education, Religions Affairs and Long Life Learning. IRETETH, in its present structure, continues to support the research areas of CERETETH: i) Mechatronics, ii) Agro technology, iii) Biomedicine and iv) Kinesiology. The operation of IRETETH/CERTH is to be the major public interdisciplinary research organization in the Region of Thessaly and Central Greece devoted to world-class basic and applied research at the interfaces of physical sciences, engineering, agriculture, and life sciences. This mission is realized by bringing together scientists from various disciplines in an environment endowed with advanced technological capabilities aiming at productive engagement with advanced research topics, as well as addressing complex problems that affect the quality of life, the environment, and the economic development of Central Greece.
