Swedish Research Council

The Swedish Research Council Formas is committed to excellence in research for sustainable development. BiodivERsA - the network programming and funding research on biodiversity and ecosystem services across European countries and territories. BiodivERsA is a network of 32 agencies and ministries from 21 European countries programming and funding pan-European research on biodiversity and ecosystem services on a competitive basis. It is an ERA-NET Co-fund, funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Since its beginning in 2005, BiodivERsA has launched 6 calls for proposals for a total amount of 160 million euro (including 80 million euro of money directly raised by BiodivERsA partners and the European Commission) to fund around 70 pan-European research projects selected for both their scientific excellence and societal/policy relevance.
The Network provides the funding, focus and networking opportunities for biodiversity researchers to work efficiently on a variety of projects that contribute to the understanding of biodiversity dynamics. It also explores innovative solutions for the use, conservation and sustainable management of biological resources. The driving objective of BiodivERsA is to develop a sustainable mechanism to promote strategic cooperation in biodiversity research and related disciplines at a European scale.
It has about 31 funding agencies and ministries from 18 countries, mainly focus in the area of biodiversity. Swedish Research Council involved Research Area on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
BiodivERsA has further developed a great diversity of activities ranging from research mapping and programming, to stakeholder engagement, dissemination of projects’ outputs and knowledge brokerage.
