Sultan Qaboos University

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) was established in 1982, and the first Sultan Qaboos University students were enrolled in 1986. Sultan Qaboos University is the realization of the promise announced by the Sultan of Oman, His. The University commenced with five colleges; namely Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Education and Science. SQU supports higher education through providing scholarships to encourage students to join the high academic caliber to postgraduate programs. Today the university is home to more than 14,000 undergraduate and close to 1500 postgraduate students. In addition, the University offers skills enhancement of courses and workshops to develop faculty and students’ skills related to research, publishing, supervising and professionalism. The University’s aim is to create a sustainable research culture able to contribute to the country’s development plans and to Omani society in general. The campus portrays the rich heritage of Oman and Islam while incorporating all the efficiencies of modern life. The result is an educational and living environment which is both functional and attractive.
