Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research comprising Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College under the aegis of Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, Kolar, is a Deemed to be University declared Under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No.F.9-36/2006-U.3(A) Dt. 25th May 2007, MHRD, Government of India. Currently, The University has Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar as the constituent institution. The University office and the constituent college are located at Tamaka village, Kolar and spread over almost 100 acres of lush green campus. This campus is 75K.M. away from Bangaluru as well as the Bangaluru International Airport. The college maintains high standard in Teaching, Training and Evaluation processes as evidenced by the high pass percentage with a substantial number of students securing Gold Medals/Distinctions/First Classes, in the University Examinations. The campus has several buildings to accommodate the administrative, teaching/training, hospital, hostel facilities of The University and the Medical College with a total build up area of 85,000 sq.mtrs. The college conducts medical courses at Under Graduate (MBBS), Post Graduate (MD, MS) and Post Graduate Diploma levels and plans to start doctoral programmes in Biochemistry, Microbiology and fellowship programme in Head and Neck Onco- Surgery . The University has also decided to design a revised curriculum for MBBS course within the regulations as prescribed by the Medical Council of India. This medical institution has a unique distinction of accreditation by NAAC India and certification by ISO 9001-2000 and maintains a high standard in teaching learning evaluation process and the institution has become a byword for quality Medical Education. Admissions to Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses are based on merit obtained in the Entrance Test conducted on an all India basis. 80% of the seats are reserved for General merit candidates. 15% of the seats are reserved for NRI / NRI sponsored and Foreign nationals. 5% of the seats are reserved under institutional preference quota. Doctor of Medicine (M.D) courses in Medicine, Pediatrics, Radio-Diagnosis, Dermatology, Anesthesiology, Physiology, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Biochemistry and Master of Surgery (M.S) courses in Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology. Many research project has received grants for the past 4 years. Some of them include 1. A large multicentre prospective study to determine etiologies, clinical practice patterns and outcomes of strokes in India (INSPIRE) funding from Collaborative research with St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore National institute of Health , USA 2. Evaluation of trend on oxidative stress and antioxidants in fluoride affected areas in Kolar district funding from ICMR and many other The university also has collaborations, linkages with other institutions within and outside India for research and academic activities. From 2011-16 there are around 75 publications from the university.
