Silesian University

The Silesian University of Technology (SUT) is one of the most prestigious and top-ranked technical universities in Poland, located in Upper Silesia. It is a modern higher education institution with over 70 years tradition in didactics, research and science. The University of Silesia constantly develops itself as a research and technological development unit, by increasing the number of research services, and opportunities for transfer of knowledge and innovation into the economy. The University of Silesia fosters humanist research projects oriented towards current social issues and demographic trend analyses, as well as tracking developments in biological and exact sciences. At present SUT educates 21984 students at all three level of study: bachelor, master and doctoral, mainly in the fields of engineering, technology and architecture. All these activities are run in modern laboratories and lecture halls by highly qualified university Staff consisting of 1750 academic teachers. Eleven faculties are located in Gliwice - the main seat of the University - two in Katowice and two in Zabrze. Almost 10 percent of top-managers in Poland graduated from SUT and also its alumni receive the highest salaries in the region and 4th highest in Poland. International exchange for students, doctoral students and employees is organised under: Erasmus+ Programme, bilateral agreements, Mundus projects and other schemes. During the last academic year Silesian university was visited by more than 300 students and employees from many different countries. Up till now the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) has carried out numerous projects within different European Programmes. In 2009 SUT underwent EC auditing of three FP6 projects. Auditors approved realization of the projects without any remarks. In 2012 three FP7 projects were audited, with reports showing no significant errors. Other programmes include: 7 Research Fund for Coal and Steel projects, 30 Tempus projects and many others (eg. COST, EUREKA, ERA-NET, KIC InnoEnegry). Broad and diverse experience gained within the realized projects makes SUT a suitable coordinator and partner in European research projects.
