Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the rural setting of the metropolis of Shanghai, Founded in 1956. Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 61 years old H.E. institution has a selective admission policy based on students past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 80-90% making this Chinese higher education organization a least selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment. This University is seen to offer the most comprehensive non-diploma course for Acupuncture. SHUTCM also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, housing, sport facilities and/or activities, financial aids and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, as well as administrative services. There are 4 national key disciplines including Chinese External Medicine, Chinese Material Medical, Chinese Internal Medicine and Traditional Chinese Orthopaedic and Traumatology. The University contains 20 colleges/departments, 3 directly affiliated top-level hospitals and 2 indirectly affiliated hospitals. Currently, over 9,000 students including 400 doctoral candidates, 1000 master degree candidates and more than 800 long-term international students are studying at the University. In addition, over 1,500 short-term international students from 35 countries or regions study here each year. In terms of straight numbers of international students, the University is an undisputed front-runner. There are about 20 research institutions established or co-established by the university as well as 13 research centers. SUTCM has established extensive cooperative relations with many prestigious universities around the world. Currently, there are 3 comprehensive hospitals (Shuguang Hospital, Longhua Hospital, and Yueyang Hospital) that are directly affiliated with SUTCM.
