Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University

Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU) is a State Agricultural University in India. It is approximately 30 km (19 mi) from Palanpur town in Banaskantha District of Gujarat.The Gujarat Agricultural University started functioning in June 1972. It was established with specific mandates of promoting productivity of agriculture by pursuing research in agriculture and allied sciences. The unique feature of the Gujarat Agricultural University was a multi-campus set-up. The other three campuses were at Junagadh, Navsari and Anand.

Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University was founded as one of the prestigious State Agricultural Universities in India.Since 2004, the GAU was split into four campuses. The Gujarat Agricultural University started functioning with specific mandates for promoting productivity of agriculture through the pursuance of research in agriculture and allied sciences. The Gujarat Agricultural University had 11 constituent colleges faculties which undertook undergraduate and postgraduate teaching under a semester system. The total number of students graduated from the Gujarat Agricultural University (until 1996) were 8532 in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering , Dairy Science, Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture and Forestry, Home Science and Fisheries. 2159 students have obtained Masters, and 393 have acquired their PhD degrees. Gujarat Agricultural University does not exist any more. The four campuses of Gujarat Agricultural University were converted into four universities on May 1, 2004 by Gujarat Government through the Gujarat Agricultural Universities Act 2004.

The other agriculture universities which were converted into universities from GAU are Anand Agricultural University, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari and Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh.The university aims at Consummate prosperity through agriculture and allied sectors, enhanced farm income through sustainable agricultural development for affordable, safe and high quality nutrient healthy farm production without any deterioration of the natural base and ecology. The university has its own Director of Research responsible for the due observance of the Statutes and Regulations, conduct of Post Graduate teaching as well as research activities and preparing the academic programme as regard to the academic calendar, courses offered and curricula of the students as per the existing policies of the University and for that purpose shall pass such orders as may be necessary in consultation with Deans of Faculties and concurrence of the Vice-Chancellor, initiation, organisation, co-ordination and conduct of research programmes inclusive of post-graduate research in the University, in consultation with the Deans, other Directors and the Heads of the Department concerned, Exercise broad administrative control over funds allotted for research, research staff and all properties, facilities, physical verification of properties and materials assigned by the University for the pursuit of research programmes, prepare the budget estimates for all activities connected with research, research institutions, programmes, publications etc., in consultation with the Deans, Heads of Department and Research Scientists, Act as a liaison officer for research activities of the University under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor for dealing with all aid-granting agencies, such as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Department of Science and Technology and other Central and State Governments or private, national, international, autonomous institutions or trusts or Co-operative institutions and any other cooperating institutions and agencies, Formulate research policies and programmes of the University in consultation with the concerned Boards of Studies, Faculties, Academic Council and the Research and Extension Council and after obtaining the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, present the same to the Board of Management for its perusal etc.
