Sanming University (SMU) is a public provincial university offering undergraduate programs with the formal approval of the State Ministry of Education in May, 2004. It was originally known as Fujian Teachers’ School which was established in 1903 by Chen Baochen, a teacher of the last Chinese emperor Puyi at the end of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Located in Sanming, a newly-developed industrial city in Fujian Province and also a China’s Top Tourist City, Sanming University has over 1000 faculty and staff members, 15,000 full-time students, and a collection of 1.9 million books. Sanming University is situated in the city of Sanming, which is one of the excellent cities of tourism in the east of China and is famous for its natural and cultural sights. With convenient traffic system, it only takes one and a half hours from Sanming to Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province and two hours to Xiamen. SMU lays continuous emphasis on its intro-university construction including the structuring of disciplines and the improvement of teaching quality. Meanwhile, SMU has been actively promoting international communication and cooperation. Sanming University has 1,021 staffs, including 58 professors, 205 associate professors and 364 lecturers.
The faculty is composed of over 674 full-time teachers, 65.28% with a Master’s degree and 36.21% with advanced academic titles. Among the high-quality teaching staff, there are four honored as the provincial outstanding university teachers. At present, the number of students enrolled has reached 14,883 in total. Sanming University mainly provides studies with Chinese Language and Literature, Physical Education (concentration on Martial Arts), Fine Arts(concentration on Chinese Painting), Animation, Product Design, Tourism Management and Service Education, Internet of Things Engineering, Mechanical Design& Manufacture and Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, Bioengineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Chemistry (concentration on High Polymer Material ).
