The National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), has been constituted as a non profit organization with the express objective of engaging in activities for the promotion of education, training, research, professionalism and skill formation at all levels of the construction and other allied industries. Besides that, NICMAR’s objectives include undertaking special projects, collaboration with other organizations, dissemination of knowledge through seminars / conferences, etc; publishing literature, undertaking consultancy and taking necessary actions conducive to fulfillment of the objectives of the Society. Under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, NICMAR was registered as a Public Trust in 1982. The NICMAR Society was constituted in 1984 and registered under the Societies’ Registration Act, 1860. The Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors and the Director General, referred in the Memorandum of Association as the ‘Chief Executive’ of the Society, are responsible for all the decisions and actions related to NICMAR. At the Institute level, there is an Academic Council chaired by Director General which is responsible for all academic decisions. There is also Research Advisory Board and an Academic Advisory Council to provide advisory support in areas referred to these bodies. There is a well developed internal organizational structure with well defined roles and responsibilities for regular administration and management of the Institute. NICMAR takes pride in being a unique, specialized institute in the country dedicated to provide post graduate education in construction, projects, real estate, infrastructure and allied areas in the country. Its educational programmes primarily involve imparting / acquiring particular knowledge and skills specifically needed for professionals in construction and allied industries such as real estate, projects and infrastructure. The School of Construction Management has under its umbrella, the flagship programme of NICMAR i.e.PGP in Advanced Construction Management. The programme helps the technically qualified Engineers and Architects to develop requisite managerial skills and further sharpen the technical skills to manage and execute complex and large engineering projects. The continuous updation in programmes and its courses to suit the requirements of the construction industry, not only in India but also abroad, has made the programme sustain for last 25 years. The Industry – Academia interface and constant research efforts of the School keep the courses in line with the requirements of industry at large. The programmes in the school are focused on the understanding of fundamental concepts of changing construction world in which the managers operate. Aspects of Infrastructure and Real Estate project developments and construction are also the focus of the programmes. In last two decades, NICMAR has become a very well known name in the field of Construction Management and Research in India and abroad and added value to the business process by carrying out consultancy, research and training for the eminent construction companies. NICMAR provides Research and Consultancy in the area of Feasibility Studies, Financial Analysis, Human Resource Management, International Construction, Contracting, Productivity, Methodology Development, Project Management, Quality and Safety Management, Techno-economic Studies etc. NICMAR has conducted research work for various companies, government and non government organisations.
