National Research Institute of Ayurveda for Drug Development is established under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS). Established as Regional Research Institute on 24th April, 1972 at Jagannath Dutta Lane, Kolkata-9, later the Institute was shifted to Bidhannagar, Kolkata on 20th March 1997. It was upgraded as Central Research Institute in 1997. NRIADD presently functions with seven departments which includes Hospital (OPD & IPD), Reproductive and Child health care, Pathology & Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Chemistry and Pharmacological. Their objectives include standardization & quality assurance of raw materials and finished products, isolation of pure compounds from Ayurvedic plants is extremely essential for standardization of raw materials as well as formulations by TLC / HPLC, strengthening collaborative and inter-disciplinary study, isolation of marker compounds for proper identification of medicinal plants & evaluation of ayurvedic formulations based on active principles present therein, pre-clinical toxicity study and evaluation of biological activity of trial drugs in animal model, strengthening the resource personnel and manpower and promote and conduct vivid clinical research programme on different lifestyle diseases as gcp guideline.
