Madras Veterinary College was started as an Agricultural School in Chennai to offer diploma and certificate course in the field of veterinary and animal sciences. The institute attained the status of a college on 1 October 1903, Madras Veterinary College has started functioning at Dobbin Hall, Vepery, Chennai, India and admitted 20 students for a three-year diploma course called GMVC (Graduate of Madras Veterinary College). Based on the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Agriculture, the college was upgraded to impart degree in veterinary science. Although the college was the fourth veterinary institution to be started in India, it was first veterinary college in the country to be affiliated to a university, the University of Madras in 1935. The college became affiliated with the University of Madras in 1936 and became the first college to offer the bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine in India. The strength of the institute lies in its ability to produce the true, genuine and unique research works where its students and staff pursue research and academics with passion and at most dedication. The university ranks good in the world and is known for its Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student ration and relations, International Faculty, International Students and Citations per Faculty.
