Khalifa University was established in the year 2007 with 1227 students and located in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Originally it was established in 1989 as the Etisalat College of Engineering (ECE), the school’s main campus was built in Sharjah, and aimed to supply the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) with technologically trained workers. Khalifa University’s current president is Tod A. Laursen.
The university offers 5 postgraduate and 9 undergraduate programms and In September, 2012, it had been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE) to offer five new fields of specialization under its Ph.D. in Engineering program which includes Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, Biomedical Engineering and Robotics. Specific strategic sectors of the UAE economy that the university is focusing its efforts around are Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Aerospace, Transport & Logistics, Energy & the Environment, Healthcare and Security. The University is particularly focused on conducting research in the following strategic priority areas such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Security, Aerospace, Healthcare, Transport and Logistics Energy and the Environment.
