Federal University of Alagoas is the major university in coastal state Alagoas and one of the main research centers in Brazilian north eastern region located very near the citys airport Founded in 1961, with various institutional departments like School of Nursing and Pharmacy, Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Computing, Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology, School of Social Service, Institute of Biological Sciences and Health and Institute of Geography, Development and Environment. Around 26 000 students enrolled in 84 courses, distributed in 23 Academic Units in the capital (53), and the campuses of Arapiraca (19) and Hinterland (8).
