The Institute of Metal Research at Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1953. The institute from since then has been established as an indispensable base for providing materials science and engineering research in China. The research themes at the institute mainly focus on the topics of high performance metallic materials, new types of inorganic non-metallic materials, and advanced composite materials. The research at the institute is directed towards the understanding and characterization of materials properties, structure and performance, as well as materials synthesis and fabrication, processing, and application.
