The University was found by Dr. Blanford B. Dougherty and brother founded Watauga Academy in 1899 with the dream of helping children in North Carolina.USA. This tiny academy quickly evolved into a school preparing quality teachers to serve North Carolina. Dr. William H Plemmons changed this from a single-purpose teacher to a multipurpose University. The Appalachian state University prepares students to lead purposeful lives as engaged in global citizens who understand their responsibilities in creating a sustainable future for all. The University also has the departments in which the students can make their graduations and also post graduations and many other programs which lead them to scholars n many more.
