The Academic Medical Center or AMC, is an university hospital affiliated with the University of Amsterdam. Academic Medical Center is one of the largest and leading hospitals of The Netherlands, The AMC intensively cooperate with the other university hospital of Amsterdam, one such hospital is the VU University Medical Center (VUmc), which is affiliated with the VU University Amsterdam, Amsterdams other university. AMC has 45 clinical and non-clinical departments.
It has tertiary care departments which includes advanced trauma care, pediatric and neonatal intensive care, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, infectious diseases and other departments. Apart from this special units include: Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic surgery, Neonatal and pediatric surgery and intensive care, Pediatric oncology, Level I trauma center. It has employed around 7000 people to provide integrated patient care, fundamental and clinical scientific research, and teaching.
The hospital houses all the medical specializations that are recognized in the Netherlands. It also provides outstanding patient services of all kinds, including a high percentage of highquality referral care. About 26,000 patients are admitted to AMC wards each year, whilst the outpatient clinics see around 350,000 people annually.
