Almost four-fifths of Japan is covered with mountains. The Japanese Alps run down the center of the largest island, Honshu.

Status of economy, research and development:

It is the world’s second largest country in economy. After huge suffering from atomic bombing during World War II, Japan excelled in all arenas of research and development. According to world nominal GDP computation, Japan is having third-largest economy and fourth in the world as per power purchasing parity. Japan has a large industrial capacity and technological advances enabled country to lead the world. The country is pioneer in advanced research in electronics, machinery, biomedical devices, computer science, robotics and medical sciences.

Status about the different subjects in which extensive research is going on:

In Physics, Medicine and Chemistry, this island nation produced 21 Nobel laureates so far. Japan also executes the toxicology research. Kyushu University is one of the top research institutions in Japan for toxicology. Numerous toxicology journals are published from Japan with good reputation. Several leading Institution in the country including University of Tokyo, Kyushu University, Kyoto University.
