"The stable isotope labeling into MS-based proteomics study renders it a robust and accurate approach in characterization and quantification of various PTMs in numerous organisms, it therefore becomes possible to integrate the stable isotope-based chemical labeling into thiol redox proteomics. To do that, a stable isotopic tag is often linked to protein thiol moiety is a chemical (or enzymatic) reaction during protein sample preparations. A characteristic example of application of this approach in redox proteomics is the stable isotope-coded affinity tag (ICAT)-based redox proteomics, in which a 12 C-coded and 13 C-coded 9-carbon linker was introduced and applied to quantify the redox status in two different samples.
