UCAOA was started on November 12, 2004, by Don Kilgore, Dan Konow, Dr. John Koehler, Dr. William Meadows, Dr. Lee Resnick, Marge Simat, and Dr. David Stern.
UCAOA offers professional and educational development resources including convention recordings, live webinars, , and self-paced learning content through its Online Education portal, in addition to providing resources for starting a new urgent care centre, providing clinical care in the urgent care setting, and running a fruitful urgent care practice. UCAOA also holds two annual educational events: the Urgent Care Fall Conference and the National Urgent Care Convention. Additionally, UCAOA conducts a regular Benchmarking Survey and publishes the findings in a report to deliver insights into the emerging trends shaping the urgent care industry.
UCAOA offers four fellowships in urgent care: University of Nevada School of Medicine/Department of Family and Community Medicine; University Hospitals Case Medical Centre Department of Family Medicine; Staten Island Physician Practice (SIPP) and JFK Family Medicine Residency Program & University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford/Swedish American Hospital.
