The Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals was founded in 1993, formed with encouragement from The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions) who recognized the need for a professional society to create and maintain professional standards, stimulate continuing education, and to act as an advocate for the non-physician members of the invasive cardiovascular care team. It is also known as SICP. Catheterization and electrophysiology laboratories are staffed by related health professionals from various disciplines. This diversity of disciplines and highly skilled professionals complements and strengthens the ability to offer a high standard of patient care. The SICP is an inclusive professional group, representing members of all those various disciplines. The SICP recognized and endorses the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential, offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International, as the inclusive endorsement for invasive cardiovascular allied health professionals. The SICP believes that the RCIS examination represents the minimum knowledge base necessary for the related health professional to effectively function in invasive cardiovascular laboratories. The society offers continuing education in the form of RCIS and RCES Review Courses to prepare allied health professionals in the registry exams. The SICP recommends all cardiovascular technologist practice under the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist Code of Ethics. The Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals is a non-profit organization that promotes and encourages participation of the invasive cardiovascular professional in his or her professional organization. Participation and support of the SICP will serve to increase the perception of professionalism and high quality of care offered to patients undergoing procedures in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. The SICP is dedicated to providing educational and networking opportunities to all members and cardiovascular professionals.
