The New York Society of Addiction Medicine

The New York Society of Addiction Medicine (NYSAM) is an organization of physicians from all medical specialities, dedicated to understanding and preventing addiction problems and to improving addiction treatment. NYSAM is a State Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. New York is the only place where the American Society of Addiction Medicine began in 1954. This national organization of physicians is dedicated to improving the treatment of alcoholism and other addictions and promotes research and education to enlighten physicians and communities about addiction prevention and treatment. The New York Society of Addiction Medicine acts locally and regionally to foster ASAM’s national efforts. As NYSAM members they combine their experience and expertise, associate with noted researchers in addiction medicine, and organize themselves to contribute to effective solutions to addiction problems for their communities and their patients. NYSAM also encourages other interested people to affiliate with them. As a growing organization they intend to speak as advocates for effective public policy. They seek to base policy on the research and clinical evidence supporting the best prevention and treatment practices.
