The Korean Society of Nursing Science, founded April of 1970, is a leading academic society representing 2400 Korean nurses. In 1970, the Korean Academy of Nursing (KAN) started as a branch of the Korean Nurses' Association and published the inaugural issue of the 'Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing', which is a peer-reviewed journal. In 2005, the official title of 'Korean Academy of Nursing’ was changed to 'Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS). The aims of this society include advancement of nursing science through research, national and international academic activities along with the development of new nursing technology and contributions to national health policy and ultimately to the improvement of health of the people. The society consists of seven academic divisions including fundamental nursing, child health nursing, adult health nursing, women's health nursing, mental health nursing, and community health nursing, and management. The official journal of the society, Daehan Kanho Hakhweoji, publishes annually 8 issues both in Korean and English versions. The journal is registered on Korean Research Foundation and uploads abstracts in MEDLINE/ PubMed. The Academic events of KSNS include planning International and national conferences. It publishes semi-quarterly the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and books and materials for undergraduates and maintains MEDLINE uploading. The current president of the Korean Society of Nursing Science (KSNS) is Kwang Ja Lee.
