The Heterocera Sumatrana Society was framed in November 1982. It is a isolated, tax-free organization fully dedicated to the study of the Lepidoptera (particularly Heterocera) fauna from the Indonesian island of Sumatra, SE Asia. It has being segmented into two parts that is: The “Red Journal Volumes” with lesser contributions, reviews, supplements to the “Green” series, education reports and preimaginal morphologies, etc. and The “Green Book Volumes” with higher complete faunic handlings from the level of tribes upwards. Lepidoptera basically is specific order of insects that includes butterflies and moths (both are called as lepidopterans). Approximately 180,000 species of Lepidoptera are defined, in 126 families and 46 superfamilies, 10% of the total defined species of living organisms. It is one of the most extensively spread and widely distinguishable insect orders in the biosphere. The term was invented by Linnaeus in 1735 and is derived from Ancient Greek words meaning (scale) and (wing). The Lepidoptera display many differences of the basic body structure that have evolved to increase advantages in existence and distribution. Current estimates advise the order may have much more species than previously thought, and is amongst the four most species orders, along with the Diptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera. This society chiefly deal with study of Lepidoptera.
