The Society was established on 13th September 1932 under the name: “Hellenic Microbiological and Hygiene Union”. After a connect modifications of its statute in 1936 and 1947 in the third modification on 18th July 1972 it performs as “Hellenic Microbiological Society. “Aim of the Society is the development of the research in the field of Microbiology in Greece, as well as internationally, through the cooperation with corresponding societies of foreign countries as well as the International Association of Microbiological Societies, and the cooperation of Greek Microbiologists with the purpose to promote Greek Microbiology”. As primary as 1956 the journal “Acta Microbiologica Hellenica” is issued unremittingly with special contribution to the progress of Microbiology in GreeThe encouragement of the promotion of public health in our country through the appropriate application of Laboratory Medicine in the prediction, prognosis and curing of diseasesce. The promotion of the fields of education and information, in the post graduate (specialty) and the life-long training of doctors and to contribute to the undergraduate study in all fields of Medical Biopathology. The promotion of cooperation with all Medical Societies in Greece and abroad and to become member of the World Association of Societies of Pathology and other relevant Societies. The promotion of research in all levels, to the society’s best interest, as well as the professional progress of the Interns and Specialized Doctors.   Regular Members of the Society are all the law abiding Special Microbiologists, the Medical Graduates that hold a Hygiene degree and the Veterinarians that hold a Microbiology Degree, as well as the graduates of Medical School that specialize in the Microbiology of Athens and Piraeus Prefecture, under the condition that they are recommended by at least two existing members. Scientists of every faculty are able to be elected as regular members, according to the Border’s decision. This proposal is submitted by the Board to the Society in a regular or not meeting. In the meeting to follow the Society decides whether to allow or not through secret voting of the presents. In case the request is declined a new one can be submitted after at least one year. Associate Members of the Society are doctors of other specialties or other distinguished scientists native or foreigners after proposal of the Board and with a majority of at least ¾ of the present members. Honorary members of the Society are claimed natives or foreign citizens Microbiologists or Veterinarian- Microbiologists of international fame or regular members of the Society that have provided exceptional services to the Society’s benefit.  Foreign citizens cannot become regular members of the Society.
