Austrian Society for Obesity Surgery

Obesity Society introduces you to surgery for severe obesity and the specialist society that has been formed to inspire research, education and communication into this surgical specialty. This society was established in 1986. Obesity Surgery is not approximately cosmetic surgery or liposuction but is almost relevant to major surgery performed only when all other methods of weight loss have failed in those people whose health is threatened by their obesity. It promotes action through collaboration in advocacy, communication, education and research. It represents one of the European obesity communities, the fellow scientists, health care practitioners, physicians, public health experts and patients. Main objectives and goals of the Society is the development of unified evidence-based approach to tackling obesity across disciplines and countries. It provides a global platform for sharing ideas and developing solutions in the Austrian region. It delivers education through its Task Forces – which organise educational activities throughout the region and develop scientific guidelines on a number of important topics
