ALFEDIAM is a French diabetic society, with a purpose of expanding knowledge of researcher and health professionals about diabetes and metabolic diseases. Now-a-days this society is known with a name Francophone Society of Diabetes (SFD). This diabetic society was established in 1954 and changed its name in 2008. SFD is governed by July 1, 1901 law and the order of 16 August 1901. SFD ensures scientific quality in the areas of metabolism and nutrition and diabetes. Scientific meetings: There are three scientific meetings. An annual spring meeting: This scientific program is developed by the Scientific Council of the SFD and satellite symposia are organized by the industry, but in limited number. Then, these programs are submitted for approval to the Office for ensuring scientific quality. This meeting has significant participation of 1,400 people in 2000 in Grenoble, Strasbourg, 2009 and 2010 in Lille and more than 4,000 in 2008 in Brussels. A mono-thematic meeting in Paris in winter: This scientific program is developed by members of the SFD and appointed by the Bureau. This society uses a format of collaborating with other societies like the French Society of Endocrinology and Cardiology, French Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics A paramedic in the fall training day: This program managed by the Scientific Committee of the SFD paramedic. Support for research: Association provides substantial financial support itself or in association with other pharmaceutical companies and research grants for-- Young researchers, Hospital teams, and more experienced clinicians or researchers. Apart from this, SFD also funds abroad trips for young researchers and doctors. Publications: The journal published by Elsevier, "Diabetes & Metabolism", is the scientific proclamation of the activities of the SFD; "The Letter of Allied Health" is a member of SFD paramedic. Working Groups: SFD comprises of fifteen active multi-professional groups of physicians and non-physicians. Recommendation: SFD is engaged in the drafting of standards and expert consensus recommendations. Moreover, upgradation of previously written documents on most the major themes of the discipline to support partnership with other learned societies. The SFD has strong links with other scientific societies or groups heavily involved in our areas, chief among them the SFE (French Society of Endocrinology), the DELF (Diabetes Education French Language), the FENAREDIAM (National Federation of Regional associations of Endocrinology-Diabetology, Metabolism) and AJD (Help for YoungDiabetics).SFD has brances in Europe, Middle East, Quebec, North Africa and in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, to promote clinical research, training activities and logistical support to the organizations with the IDF, NGOs, WHO and some local officials. Most of the Francophone meetings and speaking sessions of the SFD are programmed in Southeast Asia or Africa, at the World Diabetes Congress (IDF).
