American Association of Colleges of Nursing

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing was established in 1969 and currently it represents more than 770 nursing schools in public and private universities and senior colleges in USA. These schools offer baccalaureate, graduate and post-graduate programs for nursing education. AACN is governed by 11 directors each of them representing an institution. The association consists of several committees like government affairs, finance, nominating, membership, program committees and sponsors for professional department. The association consists of 7 leadership networks for nursing schools faculty and staff and they are involved in instructional development, research, organizational leadership, faculty practice, business operations, graduate student recruitment, communications and development. The representative of AACN is the dean or chief nurse administrator and it also consists of several members in academic section. AACN conducts meetings and all the members will attend the meetings. AACN's educational, research, federal advocacy, data collection, journal publications, conferences, webinars, accreditation and special projects work established quality standards for nursing education, assisted deans and directors to implement those standards, influenced the nursing profession to improve health care and promote public support for professional nursing education, research and practice.
