Sleep apnea disturbs your sleep caused by repetitive cessations of breath during sleep. These pauses are due to blockage of upper air way and associated with lowering of blood oxygen supply to vital parts of the body. The pauses in the breath during sleep are called apneas. Patients with decreased muscle tone and increased soft tissue around the airway give rise to a narrowed airway are at high risk for this syndrome. This syndrome is commonly seen along with snoring. Persons sleeping alone mostly unaware of their condition, untill a bed partner notice the symptoms. . Generally it can be diagnosed by patients history and other tests like polysomnography and tethering of the patient, Retrognathia or micrognathia, Pulmonary hypertension, Congestive heart failure, Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
