Mucosal Immunology involves the study of immune system response that occurs at the mucosal membrane covering the intestine, urogenital tract and the respiratory system. The mucosal immune system provides primary protection against external pathogens. It is tolerant to the internal non-harmful microbes. Mucosal immunity develops with age with the colonization of intestinal good flora.
