Colon Cancer Surgery type of surgery meant for bowel cancers. This is the main treatment for early colorectal cancer. Surgeries using this method go by different names, such as colectomy, segmental resection, low anterior resection, and proctectomy with colo-anal anastomosis. The terms used in Colorectal Cancer Surgery are Polypectomy (is a procedure in which polyps are removed), Local excision (used to treat cancers in the rectum), Resection (involves the removal of part, or all, of the colon), Laparoscopic surgery (to look inside the abdominal cavity with a special camera or scope).

Surgery is the main treatment for early colorectal cancer. Often, the piece of the colon or rectum with the tumor is removed and the ends are sewn back together.
