Abstract

Geriatric medicine, the branch of healthcare focused on the unique medical needs of older adults, has witnessed significant advancements in recent years. This comprehensive overview aims to synthesize the latest research and developments in geriatric medicine, highlighting key areas of progress and emerging trends. The aging population presents unique challenges to healthcare systems worldwide, including an increased prevalence of chronic conditions, polypharmacy, functional decline, and cognitive impairment. In response, geriatric medicine has evolved to encompass a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to care, addressing not only medical issues but also social, functional, and psychological aspects of aging.
