Description of the Country: The United States of America (USA) commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, It is a federal republic composed of 50 states. The federal district of Washington, D.C., five major territories and various possessions the territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The first ten amendments, collectively named the Bill of Rights, were ratified in 1791 and designed to guarantee many fundamental civil liberties.

Geography of the country: The United States, with its large size and geographic variety, includes most climate types. At 3.8 million square miles and with over 320 million people, the country is the world's third largest by total area. Ranking behind Russia and Canada and just above or below China the populated territories of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana, and US Virgin Islands together cover 9,185 square miles.

Status of economy, research and development: The United States is the largest importer of goods and second largest exporter, though exports per capita are relatively low. The United States is the largest producer of oil in the world, as well as its second largest importer. The U.S. dollar is the currency most used in international transactions and is the world's foremost reserve currency The United States has a mixed economy. University of Chicago economists agreed, calculating in 2014 that workers in research and development add $5 to the GDP for each dollar they earn but finance industry workers cause the GDP to shrink by $0.60 for every dollar they are paid.

Status about the different subjects in which extensive research is going on: On December 21, 2015 ACL published a proposed rule to guide implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 regarding the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) in the Federal Register and produced numerous medical journals. The National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC) is the library of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR.). NIDILRR funds more than 250 projects each year that conduct research on a wide range of issues including technology, health and function, independent living, and capacity building.
