Human skin is the covering, or integument, of the bodyââ¬â¢s surface which helps provide protection and receive sensory stimuli from the external environment. There are three layers of skin such as epidermis, dermis and subcutis. Epidermis forms an outermost layer that contains the primary protective structure, the stratum corneum. A fibrous layer that supports and strengthens the outermost layer is the dermis. Subcutis is a subcutaneous layer that is present under dermis. It supplies nutrients to the other two layers and covers and insulates the body.
